da aposte e ganhe: According to The Telegraph, Leicester have cooled their interest in Youri Tielemans, being put off by Monaco’s asking price for the midfielder.
What’s the word?
Tielemans was sensational after arriving on loan at the King Power in January and quickly cemented himself as a fan favourite.
He added an extra dimension to their attack, scoring three goals and claiming four assists.
Brendan Rodgers has made it no secret that the club will try to do everything they can to sign him but that now appears to be a thing of the past after The Telegraph’s claims.
They say the Foxes have cooled their interest, suggesting that they’ve been put off by Monaco’s asking price of £40m.
With other top clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham interested, per The Sun (May 1, page 53), they’re in great danger of missing out.
Past mistakes could prove costly
To put it simply, Leicester should be going all out to sign Tielemans. Given the finances now available to Premier League clubs then a deal for £40m shouldn’t be any problem.
However, they could now be made to rue some catastrophic errors in previous windows which might restrict them in the market.
In 2016, Leicester sold Danny Drinkwater for £35m but replaced him with the signing of Adrien Silva for a fee of £22m.
Furthermore, they spent a club record fee of £29m on Islam Slimani. With those sums of money being coughed up for distinctly average players, there should be no excuse not to go after the promising Belgian.
He’s shown just how good he is but after essentially throwing money away, the 22-year-old could be out of reach for the Foxes.
As such, they will be cursing their previous transfer business. Had it not been for poor recruitment, then Tielemans may have been walking through the door again far more easily.
