da premier bet: According to reports in The Mirror, Watford manager Marco Silva appears to have ruled himself out of the running for the vacant Everton job despite being one of the bookies’ favourites to take the role.
What’s the word, then?
da mrbet: Well, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Hornets’ Premier League clash against Stoke City at Vicarage Road on Saturday, Silva was asked about the rumours linking him with the Toffees but hinted that he is happy where he is.
The Portuguese boss only took the job during the summer but he has led them to sixth position in the Premier League table following an impressive start to the campaign.
According to online bookmakers SkyBet, he is the fifth favourite for the job after Sam Allardyce, Thomas Tuchel, Sean Dyche and cartaker boss David Unsworth.
What did he say?
Silva told The Mirror: “I’m happy with the way we play, I’m happy that we compete in every match in our style, so why change?
“I’m still here, since the first day I have been 100 per cent focused in my job, and my focus remains in the club and our next match.”
Would Everton really want him?
It’s difficult to say.
While Silva started well at Hull City and has enjoyed a fruitful campaign with Watford so far, his form with the former dropped off at the end of last season when they were relegated from the Premier League.
Again, while the Hornets have put in some impressive performances this term they were also beaten 6-0 at home by Manchester City, which perhaps shows some of the naivety and inexperience that the 43-year-old still has as a coach.
With less than a year’s Premier League experience, the Toffees could choose to look elsewhere seeing as Silva looks unlikely to want to leave Vicarage Road so shortly after taking the reins.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, it seems as though Everton are happy to see how Unsworth fares over the next few games before making a decision on whether to make a move for Silva, but it does seem that there are a few managers that would be above him in the board’s pecking order to be Koeman’s successor – especially now he has said that he is happy with Watford.
