da gbg bet: According to reports in The Independent, Watford are leading the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah in a £5m deal this summer.
da marjack bet: The 22-year-old endured a frustrating 2016/17 campaign under Antonio Conte as he struggled for first team football, and The Independent says he will leave the Premier League champions in the coming weeks unless he is given assurances that he will have more playing time next season.
However, that is unlikely as the Blues close in on a deal to sign Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and even though Conte is a fan of the England Under-21 international, he will be sold this summer if he is unwilling to extend his current contract, which runs out next summer.
While the Hornets appear to be ready to offer the Three Lions youngster the regular game time he is craving, Magpies manager Rafa Benitez will surely be keeping a close eye on the situation.
Here are three reasons Newcastle must hijack Watford’s move for Chalobah…
Quality
While he may have failed to get a regular chance in the Chelsea side, Chalobah has certainly shown the qualities he has in the few outings he has made for the Blues, as well as during previous loan spells and for the England Under-21 side.
The energetic 22-year-old usually plays in a defensive or central midfield role and has great stamina as well as being a good tackler which make him strong from a defensive point of view.
However, he is also athletic and effectively able to carry the ball forward in an attacking sense, and those attributes could mean that he would be a useful addition for Newcastle in the middle of the park next season as they look to avoid being sucked into a relegation battle.
Price tag
If Chalobah is available for just £5m then Newcastle have to be all over the deal as Benitez looks to strengthen his squad this summer.
With some of the price tags and transfer fees being thrown around this summer, that price for a player that has shown a lot of potential and room to improve could turn out to be an absolute bargain.
Benitez isn’t able to go out and buy the best players and compete with some of the biggest Premier League teams for new signings considering he is in charge of a newly-promoted side, and that is why he must be going all out on deals like this one.
Point to prove
Wherever Chalobah ends up this summer, he will have a huge point to prove to Chelsea and Antonio Conte in particular.
The 22-year-old will want to show that he is a top-class player at this level and following some impressive performances for England at the European Under-21 Championships this summer, the midfielder will know that he could also be in the thoughts of Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate next season.
If Newcastle do sign Chalobah, they would be getting a highly-motivated player that is determined to exceed, and that would only help the Magpies on the pitch in what is sure to be a tough campaign.
