Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has provided an update on the club’s attempt to re-sign Ryan Kent on loan from Liverpool, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
What’s the story?
Kent spent a successful season on loan from the Reds last term, impressing with exciting, sharp wing play while also contributing six goals and nine assists.
With the prospect of him breaking into the first-team of Jurgen Klopp’s European champions slim, the Gers are again pursuing a temporary deal for the player this summer.
McAllister believes that the Anfield side could receive bids for the player, but is hopeful of securing another loan.
The fans in the video below had some very strong words for Michel Platini who was detained over alleged corruption this week…
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the 54-year-old said of the potential deal:
“It is ongoing, but the decisions at Liverpool will probably be later down the line. Is he worth the wait? I would say so.
He has got a rapport with the fans and there is no doubt he enjoyed his time here. That’s on the pitch, in and around the training ground and the city as well — he enjoyed Glasgow.
We have to be aware that Liverpool might receive bids, but you don’t know. If Ryan is to go back out on loan again, I think we’d be first in line.”
Can Rangers afford to wait?
McAllister makes it clear he is worth waiting for from his perspective, but with massive matches on the horizon before transfer window closes, can the club afford to wait on the player rather than move onto other targets?
Steven Gerrard and the recruitment team at Ibrox have already strengthened the wing positions massively this summer with Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Sheyi Ojo all arriving to add attacking ideas to the team.
With Jamie Murphy also returning to fitness after a lengthy injury, the Rangers boss is not lacking for options.
That gives the club a bit of breathing room when it comes to the Kent deal and they can definitely take their time and see how his situation pans out.
The players at Ibrox currently are likely good enough to negotiate the early rounds of UEFA Europa League qualifying, with Gerrard no stranger to what it takes to reach the group stages as a manager.
