da mrbet: Marco Silva is once again back under immense pressure after Everton’s sixth loss of the Premier League season in just eight games. After the win against West Ham United, it did look like things were on the up for Silva.
However, with a 3-2 loss away from home and a terrible injury to Bernard, the bad luck just keeps topping up for the former Watford boss.
Considering Bernard has scored two of Everton’s league goals so far, Silva must replace the Brazilian very quickly, and the man to do this could be Anthony Gordon.
As FFC reported earlier in the month, Gordon is highly regarded by key figures at the club, including U23s boss David Unsworth and also Silva, who has suggested he is on the brink of a senior call up.
The Portuguese manager has alluded to the teenager’s versatility in the attacking third by claiming he has “more or less the same profile as Richarlison”, boasting the ability to play right, left or centrally in an attacking front three.
And, with Bernard’s recent setback in mind, it could be the perfect time to introduce him into the side when the Toffees go head-to-head with Watford tonight.
The youth star has been in sensational form for the U23s this season, scoring six times in eight games for Unsworth’s side. The 18-year-old has done this alternating between the left wing and attacking midfield.
The games recorded by Transfermarkt show that Gordon has played in both these positions this season, making it a worthwhile addition for Silva right now.
This could be similar to what happened with Marcus Rashford in 2016 when the youngster was thrust into the Manchester United first-team by Louis van Gaal because of injuries. It was not expected for the 18-year-old Rashford to take the limelight, but winners against Arsenal and Manchester City established him as a mainstay in United’s side.
It was a gamble from van Gaal that ultimately paid off and Gordon’s form suggests that a similar leap of faith from Silva wouldn’t be misplaced.
Have the stars aligned for Gordon to make only his second ever senior appearance?
