da bet esporte: One of the Sheffield United players may well have a reason to be scared.
As has been uncovered over the weekend (The Sun On Sunday, 27/10, Page 61), Sheffield United look set to go after Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.
The ‘Welsh John Stones’ as he has been called, could offer up a lot to Chris Wilder’s side as they hope to stabilise their position within the Premier League, having got off to quite a steady start so far.
The question is though, who is he going to replace? The answer is relatively straight forward.

As discussed previously on FFC, with Rodon only being 22, this is very much a move for the long term at Bramall Lane, rather than a short term fix when they brought back Phil Jagielka last summer.
With that future in mind, it looks as if Chris Basham is going to be the most likely candidate to be evicted from the Blades’ backline.
Not just because of his age, 31, but also because of his usefulness to the squad.
In the modern world of football where you expect defenders to be comfortable with the ball at their feet, Rodon blows him out of the way. So far this season Basham is completing 68% of his passes compared to Rodon’s 84.9%.
Not just in terms of attacking ability as well, but defensive as well where Rodon’s height helps him win 3.4 aerial battles per game compared to Basham’s 2.8. Therefore, the Welshman would offer an instant upgrade to the Blades backline. (All stats via WhoScored)

That’s not to say Basham’s career at Sheffield United is completely finished, he’s also played defensive midfield for them as well as other positions across the park (via Transfermarkt).
However, now the Blades have got the opportunity to create a much younger backline that can stay together for a number of years.
