Tottenham insider John Wenham has claimed that Spurs are now in a ‘disaster’ of a situation as they try and sell Tanguy Ndombele this summer.
The Lowdown: Looking for a fresh start
The Frenchman spent the second half of last season out on loan after joining his former club Lyon in January, but he has since returned to the Premier League following the conclusion of his spell in Ligue 1.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported last week that the midfielder’s agents are currently in talks with a number of clubs over a move, although there are yet to be any kind of advanced negotiations.
The Latest: Wenham’s prediction
Asked by Football Insider what he thinks will happen to Ndombele in the coming weeks, Wenham expressed his frustration over the 25-year-old’s current standing at Tottenham.
He said of the midfielder: “I think he’ll leave on loan on the very last day of the window to a real underwhelming French club.
“Way below the levels of Lyon and teams like that. Somewhere like a Bordeaux, Guingamp, St Etienne, though I’m not even sure they’re in the top level any more.
“Someone really lower down the level where Tottenham are paying all his wages and another year of his contract’s gone. It’s a farce of a situation we’re trapped in, with him on £200,000-a-week and three years to go. It’s an utter disaster of a situation.”

The Verdict: Right time to go
Ndombele has not enjoyed much success during his three-year spell at Tottenham, and now seems like it would be the perfect time for him to leave.
The 25-year-old only made three top-flight appearances under Antonio Conte before heading out on loan, and the fact that the Italian was keen to ship him out so quickly after seeing him in action just goes to show that he doesn’t view the midfielder as part of his long-term plans in N17.
The Frenchman was also omitted from Spurs’ travelling pre-season squad for their tour of South Korea, so an exit for Ndombele this summer now seems pretty much inevitable…if there’s a club with the willingness and resource to take him off Tottenham’s hands.
