da pinnacle: With clear disgruntlement from the Everton supporters and a dour 3-1 defeat against West Ham United at the London Stadium on the final day of the Premier League season, it looks increasingly likely that the Merseyside outfit will sack manager Sam Allardyce.
da dobrowin: The 63-year-old was brought to Goodison Park in November to lead a struggling team away from the relegation zone and to safety, and he has certainly done that considering they ended the campaign in eighth position in the standings.
However, the former England boss hasn’t impressed supporters with his tactics or style of play, and they want to see more ambition shown ahead the 2018/19 campaign if they are to push on and progress like owner Farhad Moshiri wants them to, considering the money he has already invested in the playing squad.
While Allardyce – who angered fans on Twitter with his team selection on Sunday – looks to be on the brink, there are a number of Toffees players that simply haven’t performed this term that will be fearful for their futures on Merseyside over the course of the next few weeks, too.
There are plenty that have left the club down with their displays and because of their attitude, and those individuals need to be shipped out before August.
Here are three Everton players that deserve to follow Allardyce through the Goodison Park exit door…
Following almost one year on the sidelines because of a knee injury he picked up while on international duty with Argentina, Funes Mori returned to Everton training and was available for selection in February, but he obviously didn’t do enough in training to convince Allardyce that he should be playing ahead of Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka.
The 27-year-old had to wait until April for his first Premier League appearance of the season as a substitute against Swansea City, making three more before the campaign finished on Sunday.
He failed to impress in 45 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Southampton earlier this month, while he finally got the start he had been craving against West Ham United, but was hauled off at half-time following a dreadful first-half display.
Everton would have been hopeful that Williams would be one of the players they could rely on this season, but instead he was one that struggled the most when things weren’t going well for the team.
In all honesty, the 33-year-old looks to be past his best and after he was sent off in the 2-1 defeat against Burnley at Turf Moor at the start of March – when he was wearing the captain’s armband – he hasn’t played again or even made the squad following the conclusion of his suspension.
Time to go.
The Belgium international has been a big problem for Everton for the last year or so, and it is one that is still going.
The 30-year-old failed to secure the move away from the club he wanted last summer, and he struggled to make much of an impact or show the right attitude up until the January transfer window, often failing to make the squad and even reportedly being sent away from training on one occasion.
The Merseyside outfit would have hoped that a loan to Olympiacos at the start of the year would lead to a permanent move, but instead they sent him back early as they weren’t happy with him, leaving the Toffees with a decision to make this summer.
It’s quite an easy one really though – if no one wants him they should simply pay up his contract to get his wages off their books.
